They are wires to compensate for the errors caused by the temperature change in the terminal portion of thermocouple by insulating a pair of conductors -- whose thermoelectric characteristics are almost similar to those of thermocouple -- in a temperature range of low to high temperature and by connecting the terminal of the thermocouple to the reference contact. They are used in all industries requiring heat management such as power plants, petrochemical plants, steel smelters, and small boilers.
